Loyola Surgery ranks 17th in NIH funding

MAYWOOD, Ill. –  The Surgery Department of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine ranks 17th in the nation in National Institutes of Health medical school funding in 2014, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.

Loyola Surgery Department researchers received $6,135,520 in NIH funding in 2014, a 21 percent increase over 2013 funding. Last year, Loyola Surgery ranked 18th in the country. Loyola Surgery ranked second in Illinois in NIH funding in 2014.

Funding from all Loyola departments combined totaled $18,376,709 in 2014, the Blue Ridge Institute said. The Blue Ridge Institute, a nonprofit organization based in North Carolina, is a recognized source for NIH funding statistics. 

Here is 2014 NIH funding for some other Loyola departments, according to the Blue Ridge Institute:

  • Internal Medicine: $1,216,214
  • Pharmacology: $1,207,908
